August 1, 2014. Last day.

We started the day off by revisiting the beach outside of Haida House. As usual there was no one there. Amazing to have this whole stretch of sunny beach to ourselves.

Then we started the drive back to Skidegate.

Good bye East Beach

Balancing Rock on the way to terminal.

The rock formations here were astounding .

We took our time and sight seed.

On the way to Spirit lake.

We went to the heritage Center. Very informative and not to be missed when you visit Haida Gwaii.

So many things to learn about Haida culture.

Bill Reid's canoe.

We had lunch here as well. The Kay Bistro is great for food.

Our ferry from the mainland .

The concert in spirit square in Queen Charlotte city before we boarded.

Loved our BC Ferry's cabin!

Goodbye Misty Islands.

We loved Haida Gwaii and will return.

July 31, 2014 Beach Day at Tlell,

Sunny, warm, bright, brilliant blue skies. We chose to just spend time at the East Beach today. I think we were two of five people in a stretch that would put Varedero to shame. Quiet, clean, serene and wildly beautiful. We were fortunate to experience it. This beach is now one of my favourite places .

Haida house in the morning.

Treasures in tidal pools. There were also millions of small crabs.

The tide was out forever.

I wore my shorts. It was warm.

Lots of sand and rocks and driftwood.

The Crowsnest where we had lunch.

Really the beaches go on forever.

The end of the day . Lots of these are washed up on the beach .

Time for another fabulous meal at Haida House.

July 30th, 2014. Second day at Tlaal

We had a lovely breakfast. Baked apples and fruit stuffed French toast. Then we were out the door at 9:00ish. It was sunny and warm. That does not mean a thing on the islands because if you wait half an hour the weather will change.

We stopped at Mayer lake first, just to see what this picnic area was like. Quiet, serene, loons and pretty. One could easily spend the day kayaking around at ease.

Our mext stop was Pure Lake. Not so many lily pads, but the same mineral rich water that seems to be a part of Haida.

On the way up to Agate Beach and Tow hill hike we stopped at a tiny bakery. Fantastic baking. All in the middle of the west coast rain forest.

The moss just drips off the trees.

Then we drove through old and new Massett up to Agate beach where on a clear day you can see Alaska. What a beautiful beach. We collected many rocks that even if they are not Agates were very pretty. Many people were crabbing. They walk out into the water up to their waists and poke around for large crabs. Amazing.

Tony and his cinnamon bun from the bakery .

It rained had wind and sun. Not the warmest but still a great day. On to our hikes.

Naikoon provincial park is huge and natural.  We ended up doing all three walks here. The whole trail was done in boardwalks and one was wheelchair accessible .

The second walk had many steps going uphill. Still doable and worth the view.

Alaska is under the white cloud.

Agate beach from the viewpoint.

A great day. Hope to have another on tomorrow.

July 29, 2014 Our first day at the Haida House in Tlaal

I woke up early and went for a walk while Tony showered. Two bald eagles on the river, chasing stuff. Two river otters, sliding into the water.

Wow, nice place. Great breakfast. Yes we are into food! Slept great. Then at 9:00 am had an omelet with smoked cheddar cheese, cherry to tomatoes, basil. Toast , pan potatoes, fruit, orange juice, strong coffee. Love it when someone else cooks.

Then we needed to go for a walk to burn off breakfast.

This property is for sale next to the Haida House.....sigh....if we were younger!

The walk to the beach. Love the dunes.

At east beach. It goes on forever .

The start of our hike through the rain forest to the shipwreck. It looks easy , but I did not get a chance to take photos of the harder parts. It took us four hours to walk 10 km. usually it only takes us two. The hike is rated as easy.....not.

Ok we are off.

The trees, moss and vegetation was amazing.

So much green.

The shipwreck was worth the walk.

The whole hike took four hours.

Our dinner at night was fabulous. Broccoli soup, prawns, halibut and. Creme de brûlée. Another walk beiore bed and then sleep. Looks like sun tomorrow.
