July 18, 2015. The trip to Chalone sur Saone

The alarm went off at 4:30am.....way too early. But George had said this was a holiday weekend, the roads would be busy and we would experience traffic jams on the main routes.

After breakfast we left the house at 6:05am. George knew all the back roads and we avoided most of the traffick problems. Not only that , but we saw somewonderful sights of the Dutch, Belgium, German, French countryside.

Warning , the rest stops in Belgium and France are dirty and the washrooms are filthy, we are lucky in North America with our highway system.

After a bit of a search we found our hotel.

We spent most of the day travelling. We are grateful that George and Marja were willing to go through all that trouble and drive us to Chalone. Our rooms were not ready at Campanile Hotel, so the manager offered us a drink which we accepted!  Maureen and Irene came about half an hour after us and we all had a drink together.

Dinner was at the Buffallo Grill in Chalone. Funny that we go to France for American food. It was a great meal and we had lots of laughs. After dinner we walked back to the hotel and sat on the terrace for a while. Breakfast in the morning and then we have to say good bye to George and Marja. This is always hard but we hope they will come and stay with us next year.
