It was an early morning. We had to be ready to go at 8:00 am. Which meant up at 6:00 and breakfast at 7:00 am. Breakfast included everything.....with champagne. Right at 8:00 am , we were on the Viking busses and on our way to an early morning wine tasting and walking tour of the Hotel adieu or the Hospices de Beaune.
On our way to the wine cellars.
This winery is owned by a young couple. We sampled two whites, a red and a chassis. Little early but very tasty.
It was like a scene out of Harry Potter!
The hospital which opened in 1452, was extremely interesting. A definite see if you like these types of museums.
There are roofs like these throughout the Burgundy region.
The hospital was later run by an order of nuns. Some of whome are still alive today. The hospices own vineyards and every year have an auction in November where they sell wine and raise money for the hospices.
One of the hospital chambers.
The kitchen.
Beaune is surrounded by vineyards which are very famous. This year has been dry and hot the grapes will be harvested early.
They are changing colour already.
In front of the vineyards.
A gypsy caravan on the road.
Leaving Beaune and sailing towards Tournurs and Macon.
People camp and swim by the river Saone.
The white cattle of this region are famous.
Lots of little villages along the way.
Bridges, locks and other sights.
Afternoon tea. Pastries, sandwiches and French coffee with brandy.
The captain's welcome reception toast.
An after dinner walk in Macon.
We finally found a grocery store that sells beer!
Gates, streets and cobble stones.
One of the little streets.
The church, and time to walk back to ship and get ready for Lyon the next day.
