Wednesday July 15, 2015. The Alfa Brewery in Limburg.

After a sleepless night worrying about the horrors of the French railway system and trying desperately to secure tickets to Chalone Sur Saone, George and Marja came to our rescue. On Saturday morning, they will drive us to Chalone, stay overnight and drive back home to Roermond Sunday. What a relief, Tony and I are (were) immensely grateful and elated. Hopefully there will not be too many traffic jams and it will be an interesting road trip.

The house where Marja and George live.

The red cobblestones is the street beside their house.

So after a late morning cup of coffee, ( and a little laundry) we made our way to the Alfa brewery in Limburg.

The Alfa brewery dates back to the 1860's and was started by the Meens' family.

Before the start of the tour, we began with a cup of coffee and famous Limburg's pie (flan). There were a number of different flavours including apple almond and apricot.

The brewery is supplied with natural water from a "bron" which is what the beer tastes so good.

Large vats of yeast smelling concoctions were evident throughout the tour. I'm afraid that even though the tour guide tried very hard to explain the whole process of making beer, I could not explain it again.

Tony and George in front of the bottling section. There was a lot of beer there!
After the tour, customers have beer tastings at the bar which included small boterhams with cheese and sausage.

On our way home from the brewery, there was a small church and cemetery .
One of the headstones had the name Meens on it. Proving that the brewery owners were part of the community.

A well kept and organized graveyard.
Statues and gardens.
On our way home through the back roads of the Dutch countryside, we stopped for a late lunch of patate Frits and croquettes. We had a bit more sun today and just a few sprinkles or rain.
